Deadpool is Fighting Marvel’s Version Of The Kool-Aid Man (Literally)

In Marvel Comics’ Deadpool: Black, White & Blood, Wade Wilson finds himself face to face a monstrous dinosaur version of the Kool-Aid Man.

In Marvel’s unique Deadpool: Black, White & Blood anthology series, one of its newest short stories sees Wade Wilson battling Marvel’s monstrous version of the Kool-Aid Man. Having been hired by AIM to take on one of their darkest and most twisted creations rivaling MODOK himself, this particular black and white story does indeed also feature the color red. However, rather than the source being blood, as the series’ title suggests, the crimson in this story largely comes from sinister cherry flavoring.

Deadpool: Black, White & Blood #4 features the story “Cherry,” coming from writer Christopher Yost and artist Martin Coccolo. In it, Wade has elected to wear his old black and white X-Force uniform, knowing full well what type of monochrome story he’s in. Arriving at a classic villain base located on the side of a dormant volcano, completely terrified AIM scientists bring in Deadpool after wiring him 100 million dollars to kill a monstrous creation made by one of their directors who had had an unlimited budget, no supervision, and no prior psychological evaluation.

Having been kept in the dark until the creature was right on top of him, Deadpool could only guess at what it was he was supposed to be fighting. Judging by the massive holes in the wall, it was some sort of foe with immense strength. Sure enough, Wade soon came face to face with a living version of Devil Drink Dino as it burst through a nearby wall, revealing the Marvel’s Universe’s version of the Kool-Aid Man (mixed with Devil Dinosaur).

What follows is naturally a hilarious battle though it’s one that even Deadpool believes to be too much, wanting this chapter of his life to be left out if anyone ever writes a book about him. Furthermore, it gets even more messed up when the Devil Drink Dino mascot begins to speak. As it reveals to Wade and the few surviving AIM agents, now that it has quenched its thirst for violence on the island, it can now spread peace and inspiration to the entire world. However, Deadpool had already thrown his belt of armed explosives into its pitcher of a body, destroying the Kool-Aid Man replacement in an explosion of cherry-flavored sugar water.

The fact that this villain is too crazy even by Deadpool’s standards speaks volumes. Devil Drink Dino is such an outlandish character that Deadpool himself wants the encounter wiped from his history completely. Thanks to this story from Yost and Coccolo, it seems as though there are still some things in the Marvel Universe that can surprise Deadpool, which is rather refreshing. Apparently, a version of the Kool-Aid Man coming to life is one of them, seemingly being too ridiculous for the Merc with a Mouth who sees the Devil Drink Dino coming to life as a step too far.
